Background Anna's family moved to Ireland from Denmark in 1965. She has a Degree in Architectural Technology from Bolton Street College of Technology - She married and moved to Wicklow in 1979 - Her work is black and white - pen and ink
Inspiration The very first drawing to be printed was titled 'Life' 1/100 and was inspired by her then 5 year old son Karl when his grandfather was ill with cancer to explain the circle of life - It was accompanied by words which ended ".......... free from life and up to heaven" Thereby establishing her basic style which has hardly changed at all since then:- All her drawings are inspired by contemporary everyday Life and all of them have words to accompany the image - sometimes just one or two words - sometimes 17,848 words
'Anna Nielsen Prints' ANP was launched on the world in 1994 after Anna's successful first exhibition of original drawings in County Buildings in Wicklow in 1994. Their standard range includes:- Original drawings, Limited Editions, Open Editions, Cards and books - Anna's work is stocked by some 20 well established Irish, Danish and UK retail shops and everything is available from her fast growing 'Online' web site. ANP are currently looking for Publishers / Distributors / Agents to expand into UK, Europe and US markets
Exhibitions and Design Commissions Her resent exhibition venues include a small gallery in Paris spring of 2006 and Galleri Tavi, Skagen, Denmark 2007. In 2008 and 2009 she concentrated on new design projects and commissions:- A Greeting Card Series of 36 Images exclusive to UK - Two Danish projects:- Ikons for 'Rikki Tikki' exclusive to Scandinavia and a Valentine series of 6 images with RED hearts for 'State of Art' which became part of ANP's standard range and most recently - The book cover design, layout and illustrations for Filíocht Ghrá na Gaeilge - Love Poems in Irish for CoisLife which has just been awarded Gradam Uí Shúilleabháin / Irish Book of the Year Award 2009 -
A range of ceramic pots made with potter Rob D’Eath in 2001 and two ranges of silver jewellery with Declan Killen and Dougal Hazel are among previous design commissions.
She published the third book of her work "Serenditity' in November 2008 and her website www.annanielsen.com officially went 'Online' February 2009
Current She is building up a substantial portfolio of new, very large drawings and looking for a good Dublin gallery to house her next exhibition. At the same time 'Workshops with Anna Nielsen' is her new project planned to start spring 2010 under the heading 'Develop your Art' Workshops - These courses are aimed at developing what you do with your artwork - as a hobby to give to friends or as a commercial venture.......etc.
