CHAIN REACTION
We all think of ourselves as independent
but in reality we depend on each other in millions
if not billions, of different ways each day
Each of us depend on other people to exist either by choice
or necessity – you may not think so
but already today
you have probably grabbed on to your milkman
the bus driver/Car/bicycle manufacturer or shoe maker
a newsagent and/or a baker
Everything we eat, wear or use has been made by someone
We are ourselves of course also part of the chain
in that we also contribute something which is needed
even if it is only company for others while they work!
For example since this drawing left my pen
it has been delivered to John in Ruon Print
he sent it via the delivery man, Shay,
to a repro house where Paul made a film,
which Colin plans up
from which John makes a plate
which Sean prints beautifully
and Colin then marks, cuts and wraps perfectly
ready for collection
Add to this chain, all those who made all the materials used
and the machinery employed
Think of how many people have contributed
to printing technology alone?
This illustrates perfectly just how infinite each chain really is
and how far back through history, it stretches
If everybody, who had even the smallest contribution
towards making this print, were included,
how many links would it have?…..
How long is a piece of string?

WHAT WILL BE WILL BE

WHAT WILL BE WILL BE
The future is not ours to see
Every day we are faced with many choices
Each choice we take affect’s the situation we find ourselves in next
Should we go through the door to our left or our right
or climb all the steps and enter to one at the very top?
Some choices are made for us
If my parents had had the fifty pounds needed for me to go
to The Grafton Academy of Design
I would not have gone to Bolton Street College of Technology
I would not have met my husband
I would not have had my children
I would not now be writing these words
Or would I?
Sometimes it is nice to know that what will be will be

.

LEAN ON ME
We sometimes have loads too heavy
for one to carry – alone
We sometimes get tired of carrying
a heavy load – every day
A load shared – Is a load halved
just talking sometimes helps
So when you need me – call me
you can always lean on me

You’ve got a friend

The song goes
“You just call out my name
and you know where ever I am,
I’ll come running”
As long as you have a friend
No matter how low you feel
on your own
No matter how bad things seem
in the dark
If you’ve got a friend
a phone call
is all it will take

GOOD LUCK

Reaching 21 is not just an other birthday….. so they say!!! – Up till now there has been someone telling you what you can and can not do – As a baby when to sleep – when to be awake – when to eat – As a toddler what you can and can not break or even touch! – As a school child what to learn and how to learn it – As a teen-ager how and whom to start a relationship with – Later you find out for yourself just how far to push the barriers and what to rebel against – Then one day it all changes!
With only about 7670 days of practice – You are deemed ready to do it yourself
You can now sleep when and with whom you want – eat and drink what you Want…but
You can touch and break what you want…………but
What or if you want to learn becomes your choice……….but
The choice of partner is now expanded to include the whole world…………but
There are no barriers except those you put on yourself………..but
…………………………………………………………………………………Only this one rule remains!
You are now legally and morally responsible for all your own actions
From now on the buck stops with you!
Whatever you want – See it all – Do it all and be it all – but

………..Be selective and have a great life
(“Good luck” Just in case you need it)

It does not matter if it is Gaelic, Hurling, Rugby, Soccer, or Tiddlywinks
It is you against us and winning is the greatest feeling in the world!

Jubilation is unbridled
Spontaneous leaps to punch th air accompanied by loud whistles
Cries of “Yes!” fill the air
Spirits soar and loud cheering and excited clapping screams of the passion with which supporters respond to
“Their” teams positive performance!
Dejection and disbelief plummet true supporters
to the depths of despair as their team falls behind
A son tries in vain to comfort his dad with words of
“It’s not that bad…….there is still the next match” but one fan can’t take any more…………
he leaves before the match is even over
There is nothing like a match
It can carry emotions
to the highest pitch of elation one instant
then crash them to rock bottom the next

Life is not a rehearsal
You can get thru life as if it were a driving lesson
following the Rules of the Road to the letter
never crossing the white line and
probably survive to be a great old age
but what if you reached the end
only to look back and wish: If only……..
Each day only comes once
enjoy it to the full,
you will never get the chance again!!!
It may not be necessary to quit your job
sell all your belongings
and go swim with the dolphins
on a sun baked beach
but why not do something
you have never done before
It does not have to be cartwheels

a hop and a skip will do
………………….to start with

History is written as we live it
Slow steady progress inevitably inexorably
takes each of us forward
But sometimes…….
When we reach for something much higher
When we stretch our resolve even further
When we push past previous limits……
to beyond – just sometimes….
It is possible to exceed all expectations…… –
– to realise our very dreams

IF I CAN DREAM

IF I CAN DREAM
As I stood in a long queue at the bus stop,
in the cold and the wind and the rain
I vowed always to remember
what it felt like as sometimes
several full busses passed us by
I stood there and wondered
what everybody else was thinking?
What were they like?
What were their dreams?

Here we have 30 people
3 children and 20 dreams
try to match the dream with the person………………………………

I’VE DONE IT

Framed 750.00

Passing an exam – Academic or otherwise is the most wonderful feeling.
To have been judged by ones peers to be good enough after weeks – months
even years of learning and endless practice is fantastic – brilliant and marvelous!

But I wonder if a thought ought to be spared for those who also wait for the result
Those who care passionately wether we pass or fail
Those who walk the floor waiting for the phone to ring
Constantly checking the time
nervously drinking or chain smoking or praying
One with her ears covered and another with his head in a cardboard box
Driven to distraction by the waiting
and at the same time afraid to hear the result………….

The words “I’ve done it” shouted while floating from cloud nine
are greeted with “Congratulations” and “I never doubted you”
And perhaps it is because of those very people who care so much
that the feelings of joy are so great!
So if you’ve just done it – “Well done”

GONE FISHING
When the work load is unending
When the years race by
When queues for everything are growing
When the noise is deafening
When the traffic isn’t moving…………….
I think of Reginald Perrin
Maybe he had the right idea –
He just carried it a little too far
When it all gets too much
Do leave all the hassels behind on the shore
and go fishing!
Just remember to leave a note!

Time does not stand still
Moving from one place to another
whether it be a new House or

Is like
leaving a part of yourself behind
Your comfort – your friends
your past!
But live in the present
The future
will probably be FANTASTIC!
Oh! and “Good luck”
