Golf the front 9

The Bridges Golf Club exists only in my imagination
but you might just recognise a few characters:-
A Frenchman with one foot in the water
a young Spaniard hitting at a tree trunk
a Welshman with an extra club
a tall easy-going South African
waiting for the fairway to clear
All on the 9th
While on the 8th a would be Cup Captain putts and
a great Dane waits
while his partner escapes the sand
You should be able to spot
a Swede chipping in on the 5th
A blonde Australian in the “Drop Zone”
beside sharks on the 4th
Perhaps a large cigar smoking Irishman
contemplating going for the green over the lake
while a German up a tree has to lay up short!
The charismatic American sinking another huge put
clenched fist aloft
and for old timers a Golden Bear
in the fairway bunker on the 1st
Outside the practice range an Argentinian Carlos
says he never needs to practice either
while another Irishman tries body building
Any one of the rest could be you!
Am I seeing things?
In the rough on the 6th – is
that………

The Web

Imagine your journey through life as a cobweb
Radiating strands make your framework and hold your web in place
You spin your individual pattern in between – Each radiating strand is rooted to something solid
The three main roots which always formed part of all webs are:-
Genetic Background –
Geographical Location and
Education
Roots for the remaining strands can vary greatly – For example Religion – Sport – Work – Vocation – Talent etc…….
The patterns are endless because you are unique – You can choose what is important to you only – but remember our three main strands always influence what options we have to choose from! Such was the ordered system which governed our lives for generations – but it has already begun to change dramatically
The three main strands are no longer a certainty: If one can change the colour of ones skin, the length of ones limbs, remove DNA from genes to avoid inherited disease and be born in a tube to parents who are dead – then how long before genetic background is fully adjustable?
The migration from geographical origins is growing faster with knowledge – those who stayed and suffered within an unfair system now see the option to leave, as well as the option to stay and change that system!
If we can travel faster than the speed of sound and see the back of Mars then “impossible” takes on a new meaning.
Suddenly with access to the vast body of mankind’s knowledge –
The information previously restricted to a few has become accessible to many via radio and tele-communications, the Internet etc……………………………………………….
“Education” now has a completely different meaning – where before you learned from the spoken or written word – now you can see a moving elephant and hear a whale sing.
All possible Einsteins, Picassos or Marie Curies should be able to fulfil their potential – no matter who or where they are!
The World Wide Web is a giant intangible network of information made by and of all peoples and all knowledge everywhere
The most exciting thing is you can use it AND you can also be part of it!
Technically anybody, anywhere, can reach everybody else in the world!
So spin your web – make your website and connect your life to the world!
Use it to gain knowledge –
To communicate –
To buy or to sell!
To fulfil your aspirations!
Technological advances are momentous and every second someone’s life is changed via The Web

Life

This drawing represents the journey thru’ life
and was drawn for my 5 year old son
when his grandfather was dying
A baby at the bottom – school – the army
choosing a partner
getting into drugs, drink or religion
Having children, living in a flat and
having to get the bus
The next image represents work, resulting in money
which in turn allows time for sports and hobbies
and the retirement cottage
Old age and finally the line at the top
represents death once thru’ it
free from life and
up to heaven

The Optimist and the Pessimist

This is the story of one day
in the lives of Mr. Optimist and Mr. Pessimist
They both experience the same events,
have the same job and play the same sport
but their feelings and thoughts
make one an optimist and
the other a pessimist.
For example:- Mr. O. wakes up in the morning
and thinks “Another great day”.
Whereas Mr. P. pulls the covers over his head
and thinks “Just ten more minutes.”
In work Mr. O. feels lucky
to have a good job with prospects
while Mr. P. would rather be at home
“It’s a dead end job anyway.”
Mr. O. plays sport expecting to win
but Mr. P. expects a bad shot very time
Mr. P. greets his future wife with thoughts of
“Ball and chain”
Mr. O. thinks “Bed!”
Mr. O. sees a future full of idyllic summer days
barbecuing in the garden
Mr. P. sees coming home to
seven screaming children and
a wife worn out by housework
Mr. O. walks his fiancee to her flat thinking
“Tonight is my lucky night.”
Mr. P. is sure there is no chance
so he walks his fiancee to her bus stop.

Mr. O.’s last thought before sleep is
“Life really is great”
Mr. P.’s last thought is
“Life really is a bore”

Relationships

The shape of this drawing represents
the way in which relationships form society
We each a have a personality and the combination
of two or more personalities forms a relationship
this in turn affects surrounding relationships
and shapes society as a whole
Different areas of the world
have widely differing social structures
some are matriarchal and some are patriarchal
some societies even support combined family structures
similar to those in the animal world who separate
for example, offspring into a communal group cared for by
selected members of the group
not necessarily their parents
This drawing is a series of smaller drawings
depicting relationships
in this case restricted to 578 adults
with everything from the loving, happy, dependant, joyous,
funny, arguing, violent or supportive types of relationships
right thru’ to the same sex couples, love triangles
and the egoist in love with himself

Unfinished Sculpture black

I have used a total of 478 female forms to illustrate
how I imagine a sculptor might sculpt a woman
There might be three direct influences
– Material
– A Model
– Experience
Firstly – Material – Stone would behave differently when shaped than wood or clay or any other material It is Represented here by the smallest solid figures at the unfinished base of this sculpture
Secondly – The Model – Represented here by the largest figure – shaded – because Her shape would greatly influence the work
Thirdly – Experience – In the sculptor’s mind would be a memory of every female shape he has ever seen Represented here by the background of outlined figures which become solid
when they form part of the Unfinished Sculpture
