Relationships

The shape of this drawing represents
the way in which relationships form society
We each a have a personality and the combination
of two or more personalities forms a relationship
this in turn affects surrounding relationships
and shapes society as a whole
Different areas of the world
have widely differing social structures
some are matriarchal and some are patriarchal
some societies even support combined family structures
similar to those in the animal world who separate
for example, offspring into a communal group cared for by
selected members of the group
not necessarily their parents
This drawing is a series of smaller drawings
depicting relationships
in this case restricted to 578 adults
with everything from the loving, happy, dependant, joyous,
funny, arguing, violent or supportive types of relationships
right thru’ to the same sex couples, love triangles
and the egoist in love with himself

Unfinished Sculpture black

I have used a total of 478 female forms to illustrate
how I imagine a sculptor might sculpt a woman
There might be three direct influences
– Material
– A Model
– Experience
Firstly – Material – Stone would behave differently when shaped than wood or clay or any other material It is Represented here by the smallest solid figures at the unfinished base of this sculpture
Secondly – The Model – Represented here by the largest figure – shaded – because Her shape would greatly influence the work
Thirdly – Experience – In the sculptor’s mind would be a memory of every female shape he has ever seen Represented here by the background of outlined figures which become solid
when they form part of the Unfinished Sculpture

The Human Race

This drawing represents the race in which
we are all entered the day we are born.
The race is to attain social status and
possessions – success
is measured in money.
Different people race at different speeds
with different goals.
It begins before we are born.
We can be and are examined and
measured even before we are born.
Our arrival is too late to discover our sex!
When we are born they weigh and
measure us and then the race is on……..
“My baby walked at 10 months”
“Mine did at 9 months”
From now on we are urged to be bigger,
better  and faster.
A babywalker, slide, swing,
roller skates and bike give us more speed.
Our clothes are bought two sizes too big
We are tested in school
points equal further education
Childhood is shortened if
we are good at sports
rewards are enormous
if we are successful
Houses and moneybags represent
status and possessions
Bigger house, faster car, more money
Dropouts are forced to take part
to survive
Sometimes come up against a brick wall.
The people spanning the gap
represent help – counselling –
further education or financial
The annual holiday, hospital
or external forces
represented here by rain and snow
can make us slow down
some slip or are stepped on by others
some break the law.
Though not all in prison are guilty
Some want to slow down aeging
appearing as “Mutton dressed as lamb”
Retirement, early or late,
is the official Finish.
Only then do we allow ourselves time
to do all the things
we always wanted to do
supported by our wealth,
our families or the state
We have time to talk, to read, to paint
or spend in the garden
time for everything
and anything – As we reach the last lap
we move quite slowly
hopefully with time to do all those things
and hopefully to move onto
whatever we expect to find
when our race is finally run………….

Happy ever after

Falling in love is a game of chance
Getting married is a bit of a lottery
Luck will probably determine our fate
When you fall in love with some one
you don’t know what else you might get
A bossy mother-in-law
An interfering brother-in-law
or a thwarted ex-lover
lurking in the undergrowth!
You could find out that she was betrothed
to the king of Prussia at birth
or that he is really
the long lost heir to billions!
It is of course also true
that you might get a second mother
some wonderful children
in fact a whole new extended family
who will welcome you with open arms
into their homes
and only enter yours when asked!
We do not walk around with details
of our religious preferences nor our historical,
social, financial or cultural backgrounds
displayed permanently for all to study
before a friendship starts
So it’s usually too late – Love has struck
But only two fall in love
Only two get married
Only two have to live with their consequences
If only all “Well meaning”
“Interfering” – “Outsiders” would leave them alone
to make their own decisions
To be together
To make their own mistakes
To live their own lives
Then there would be so much less heartache
and so much more happiness Ever After

For fun I have randomly selected
some of examples of what you might get
If you are lucky or even if you are not
But remember Love has no barriers

The Apartments – behind closed doors

Landmark memories fill our lives
like birthdays, growing up,
moving out, getting married,
starting a family and then building
a comfortable Lifestyle for ourselves
in this apartment block we can view
bits of Life being lived
through each window we see
small snippets of how some people
live their private lives
Some good times and
Some bad times
Big troubles and small trials
As we look behind closed doors
Major dilemma and great happiness
separated by only by a single wall

Road to success

The road to success may be paved
with right turns and wrong turns
a selection of detours, copious diversions
along with several dead ends,
it probably has a sprinkling of U-turns
and miles and miles and miles
and miles of effort
So that when you finally reach your goal,
when you eventually achieve your aim
when you are sucessfully adjudged to be
“the best of the best”
Then that success,
like the journey can be very sweet

it’s never too late

We are all different – You are unique
there will only ever only be one of You
So make sure you live your life to the full
It is never too late to try
Yesterdays actions are history
you can not change them
you may have to contend
with their consequences but remember
you can change your mind…………….
You can still reach for your dreams!
Give yourself every chance – Make use of your assets
Reach out with your soul
Follow your heart and go with your gut
and if you don’t manage to reach the North Pole,
ride on an elephant or own an airline
at least you will have no regrets
Life is a journey – we all have One ticket
………let’s enjoy the ride!

Look to the future

Nothing stays the same
and some things in life – never change
The past is a great place to visit
But the present is the only place to live
Look to the future with positive expectation
Because the future starts
right now

A door is a wonderful thing

A door is a wonderful thing
It makes you feel safe
It keeps intruders at bay
It hides your mess
till you are ready to clean
It even hides you!
It keeps in the heat
It keeps out the cold and…..
have you ever tried to be alone…….. without one?
