Chain reaction

We all think of ourselves as independent
but in reality we depend on each other in millions
if not billions, of different ways each day
Each of us depend on other people to exist either by choice
or necessity – you may not think so
but already today
you have probably grabbed on to your milkman
the bus driver/Car/bicycle manufacturer or shoe maker
a newsagent and/or a baker
Everything we eat, wear or use has been made by someone
We are ourselves of course also part of the chain
in that we also contribute something which is needed
even if it is only company for others while they work!
For example since this drawing left my pen
it has been delivered to John in Ruon Print
he sent it via the delivery man, Shay,
to a repro house where Paul made a film,
which Colin plans up
from which John makes a plate
which Sean prints beautifully
and Colin then marks, cuts and wraps perfectly
ready for collection
Add to this chain, all those who made all the materials used
and the machinery employed
Think of how many people have contributed
to printing technology alone?
This illustrates perfectly just how infinite each chain really is
and how far back through history, it stretches
If everybody, who had even the smallest contribution
towards making this print, were included,
how many links would it have?…..
How long is a piece of string?

Two heads are better than one

If you look beyond the obvious
Lateral thinking is fun!
Your solution to a problem
may not be anyone else’s
but if it gets the job done…..
What does it matter?
Variety is the spice of life!
……….and if you do
have to carry a long plank
then two heads are better than one!
Even if for no other reason than that:-
Each head usually comes with two arms
and a body attached!

Team Spirit

To fight for personal victory
and to win
is always great
but
when your efforts
affect the outcome for everyone
when your failures
affect the result for everyone
Then the desire to fight
for your team
and to win for your team
Is what gives ‘team spirit’
its greatest power

There has to be an answer

Hindsight is a wonderful thing
Looking back the answer is always obvious

Man thought the world was flat
Question: What happens when you come to the edge?
Answer: The world is round

Impossible as it may seem right now
There has to be an answer –
There always is

Hang on

When you are not alone
When someone is there
to help you and
if you can hang on
just a little longer
if you can make one last big effort
Then all that went before
will have been worthwhile
and you will achieve
your goal

Retirement is a freedom

Retirement is a transition from
waking up in the morning and having to do…….
To…: “Waking up in the morning to
the question “What would I like to do today….?”
Retirement is the change
from tomorrow’s tasks being predetermined
To…- Being able to change your mind
and go fishing or go walking or even staying in bed!
Retirement does not have to be in a cottage
or where the sun shines every day
Nor…..
Does it have to follow any pattern whatsoever!
Retirement is a state of mind
In fact…….
Retirement is a freedom to choose

Extreme moveover

They say clearing out your rubbish
Clears your mind
They say leaving the past behind
Opens your eyes to the future
If ‘changing rooms’
are what you long for
Then as you move to this new location
With waiting – empty – rooms!
Do not hesitate!
Get your teeth into that new Life Style!
Let hypothetical Lifts
and Tucks and Bandages
Train your mind to make the changes…..
…..by lifting the weights from your past
Then porcelain veneers
and lasic eye surgery and make-up
When applied
not to you
but to your ‘Surroundings’
Can make your move
Extreme!

Live your dream

When you start out in life
It’s all a bit daunting
So many new paths to explore
So many options to choose from
But believe in yourself
Believe in your dreams
….. and make them happen
Because you will find
your dreams will show you the way

Location, Location

There is no one place
anywhere in the world
where every single one of us
would definitely be happy to live
We are all different
We have different needs
The real trick is to find
‘Your own’
Perfect location

Outer Space

The light of day
with the heat of the sun
The dark of night
with the brightness of the stars
The colour of a rainbow
with the touch of raindrops
when you are outside………
Living life is all around you
– all the time

Quality Time

A lot of our younger years were spent
Wanting to be “old enough to……..”
and ‘X’ number of years was like a magic barrier
to be reached or illicitly crossed!
To ride a bike ‘on the road’
– to leave school, to wear make-up,
get a job, drive a car
go dancing and / or drinking or even to vote!
We never seemed quite to be
……..
tall enough for the fun fair ride
or old enough to gain entry
or mature enough to get insured in Dad’s car!
As each goal was achieved – another appeared
But
Life is not a race to the end
There is no prize for finishing first
Each day comes but once
and all we truly have
is the memory of our past
and this one moment in Time
It is the quality of how we spend our time
which make the best memories
