Gone fishing

When the work load is unending
When the years race by
When queues for everything are growing
When the noise is deafening
When the traffic isn’t moving…………….
I think of Reginald Perrin
Maybe he had the right idea
He just carried it a little too far
When it all gets too much
Do leave all the hassles behind on the shore
and go fishing!
Just remember to leave a note!

Getting to know you

What if you got to know someone
before you met them?,
It might turn out like this little story did………….,
He nonchallantly contemplates life in general………….
She happily reads the news of today,
Without any great premeditation
they come across each other on the Web,
They start a dialogue,
Which grows into friendship?,
They unplug thier computers
and meet for the first time….,
and then…

Down the aisle

Going down the aisle is the best part of a wedding day –
The relief is enormous
All the worry is gone – The most important part of the day is over
Your partner turned up
You both looked great – nobody tripped
and all the words came out correctly
Now you can both concentrate on enjoying the day
It does not matter if you get covered in confetti
or how many great aunts want to kiss you
It does not matter how long the fotographer wants everyone to “Say cheese”
or how cold or wet it is!
It does not matter that great uncle Oscar does not like the meal
or that Mary’s has gone cold!
It does not matter that the icing is too hard to cut
or that the knife is blunt
It does not matter how embarrising or long or boring the speeches are
It does not even matter if too much wine is consumed
by those who always do

The most important part of the day is over
You are different now than when you went up the aisle
you are married
you are husband and wife forever!

Finding a match

The first meeting
A night out, dancing perhaps
Hours and hours talking
Walking – Eating – together
This is how a love story begins
They are all different and yet the same
When you find your match
there is no more “Goodbye” at the door
only a happy ending

Fortune favours the brave

You can go for the safe option
You can maintain steady progress
You can play it safe
But is that all there is?
Is this as good as it gets?
Next time you are faced with an opportunity
to have a go
Remember – Fortune favours the brave

Chain reaction

We all think of ourselves as independent
but in reality we depend on each other in millions
if not billions, of different ways each day
Each of us depend on other people to exist either by choice
or necessity – you may not think so
but already today
you have probably grabbed on to your milkman
the bus driver/Car/bicycle manufacturer or shoe maker
a newsagent and/or a baker
Everything we eat, wear or use has been made by someone
We are ourselves of course also part of the chain
in that we also contribute something which is needed
even if it is only company for others while they work!
For example since this drawing left my pen
it has been delivered to John in Ruon Print
he sent it via the delivery man, Shay,
to a repro house where Paul made a film,
which Colin plans up
from which John makes a plate
which Sean prints beautifully
and Colin then marks, cuts and wraps perfectly
ready for collection
Add to this chain, all those who made all the materials used
and the machinery employed
Think of how many people have contributed
to printing technology alone?
This illustrates perfectly just how infinite each chain really is
and how far back through history, it stretches
If everybody, who had even the smallest contribution
towards making this print, were included,
how many links would it have?…..
How long is a piece of string?

Always on my mind

When you go to bed thinking of her
when you dream about him
when you smile at yourself in the mirror
at the thought of her
when you get dressed to please him
when you travel to work
oblivious of your surroundings
when work is an obstacle keeping you apart
when food is tasteless
and unnecessary without her
when time apart moves like a snail…………….
when you feel FANTASTIC as you meet
when being together is the
only thing which matters…………..
If you can remember this feeling
then you have been in love
if you haven’t
you have a treat in store!

Oh happy day

Probably the most momentous event in anyone’s life
is the birth of a child
This light-hearted look at the event begins as it has to
with a couple getting together
Joy as the doctor confirms the expected date of arrival
The “Father” receiving claps on the back for his effort
his job is done
The “Mother” however has to contend with Morning sickness regular visits to the doctor to be weighed and checked
growing to alarming proportions
and being told to be patient and breathe deeply!
The final dash to the hospital with the bag that never holds everything anyway and then …………….
A baby is born
Everything else fades into insignificance
“ Oh Happy day” when it is all over and someone says
“It is a perfect little baby
Congratulations”

Without you…

This drawing tries to depict the feelings of loneliness
experienced by anyone who has had a relationship
with another person
and then is separated from him or her
Whether the separation is forever or just an hour
a day, a week…..
The feeling of loneliness is so unbelievably strong
it can change ones personality
affect the ability to function normally
and in the extreme cases people do die of a broken heart

Long distance

Two people away from home
meet and fall in love
They spend every last moment
together
But She has to return home
alone
He is left behind
He travels home
alone
He writes her many long letters
She reads them
alone
They spend hours and hours
and hours on the telephone
But it is not enough
they both long for the day
they will meet again

Happy birthday

Everybody likes their birth date
to be remembered
Especially those who pretend not to care
Secretly hoping
that someone will remember
Here I have the birthday person
waking up on the special day
marked boldly on the calendar
singing and whistling happily
while washing themselves
getting ready for this special day
He opens the door expectantly …………..
Complete indifference………………
Nobody has remembered
They continue to read the newspaper
and study the cereal box!
The disappointment is enormous
Nobody has remembered!!
Nobody!!
But we can see the hidden present
and
Suddenly everyone jumps up
The newspaper falls to the floor
The cereal box is knocked over
spilling flakes on to the floor
Presents appear from under and behind
and more well wishers appear at the door
”Surprise!”
“Happy birthday to you”
and
“Many happy returns” fill the air

Across a crowded room

When asked how did you two meet?
A lot of people answer
“I saw her across the room” or
“His eyes met mine and that was it!”
This little love story tells it like this………………………
When their eyes met it was probably
love at first sight
They were drawn towards each other
They met and it was magic
The rest of the world might as well go away
They are together
After so very many years
It is still great to look across a crowded room
and get that feeling of
We were meant to be together
then and now
